'Receded' is a piece of performance art that has a skirt that is made up of a spiralling kilometre of fabric. This kilometre equates to the distance that a glacier, the Sermitsiaq Glacier in south-west Greenland,  has receded from 1997 to 2015. I visited this glacier as an artist on a science-based expedition and I decided to look at it on google earth and that was when I realised the distance that the glacier had receded.

This direct realisation of global warming is shocking and difficult to make tangible without a personal experience. Far removed in our developed over-civilised country we struggle to witness direct evidence of global warming, this dress is only at its first stage of presentation, the second is to unpick it and lay out the kilometre.
